Cambodia: Land of the Unknown

Stéphane De Greef is a man of many talents: In addition to managing casualty data and producing maps with the Landmine and Cluster Munition Monitor in Siem Reap, Cambodia, he is also a passionate naturalist with a special interest in invertebrates. Today, we’re incredibly pleased –and quite fortunate– to be able to add “Meet Your Neighbours Contributor” to his résumé!

Kerengga Ant-like Jumper, is a jumping spider that mimics the Asian weaver ant (Oecophylla smaragdina)

Cambodia is place brimming with incredible biodiversity and yet relatively little is known about much of its fauna. Over the coming months, Stéphane will be documenting some of these species in the MYN field-studio so that he can help to nurture a greater awareness within his community, greater Cambodia and the rest of the world!

After experimenting with the technique for only a couple of weeks, Stéphane has photographed some amazing species. We’re excited to see what he will discover next! Check out this video (click here) to see one particularly large spider than he discovered on week two. Does it even count as macrophotography when the spider’s are this big?
